What causes “Golfer’s Elbow”?
Much like Tennis Elbow, Golfer’s Elbow is an overuse injury or condition that affects the tendons and other soft tissues surrounding the elbow joint. While Tennis Elbow involves pain on the outside of the elbow, Golfer’s Elbow involves pain stemming from the inside of the elbow. Golfer’s Elbow can be caused by many activities, including golf, racket sports, throwing sports and weight training.
How is “Golfer’s Elbow” typically treated?
An acute Golfer’s Elbow injury is usually treated with rest, ice, compression and elevation. When it persists for months without relief, more aggressive forms of treatment become necessary to relieve pain. In some cases, doctors may suggest a brace or splint along with physical therapy. When pain continues, steroid injections may be used to treat the elbow or surgery may be recommended. While steroid and cortisone injections can temporarily reduce pain, over time they actually weaken and degenerate ligaments and tendons. This degeneration puts the patient at greater risk for surgery in the future.
How can Renew Regenerative Medicine help?
Advanced regenerative and restorative treatments are now available to treat Golfer’s Elbow injuries and associated pain. Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy allows for the treatment of Golfer’s Elbow with local injections. PRP presents patients with a long-lasting solution using the body’s natural healing process. PRP uses platelets from the patient’s own blood to promote healing and regeneration of tissue; no foreign objects or substances are added to the elbow during the procedure. PRP therapy offers an effective treatment with a low risk of infection or other complications.
The medical team at Renew Regenerative Medicine also uses Regenerative Cell Therapy injections to treat Golfer’s Elbow injuries. Regenerative Cell Therapy allows patients to use regenerative cells to help repair damaged cells and tissues in their elbow. Stem Cell Therapy is the most advanced and, arguably, most effective regenerative therapy — stem cells heal and restore damaged joints and can help regenerate cells. Stem Cell Therapy can be used to stimulate a regenerative healing process in the elbow and in this way can be used to provide many patients powerful healing and long-lasting relief.
