Tennis Elbow

What causes “Tennis Elbow”?

Lateral Epicondylitis, also known as “Tennis Elbow,” is a common injury in individuals who overuse the elbow. The majority of Tennis Elbow injuries do not actually result from playing tennis, but from professions and trades linked to overuse of the elbow. Many common arm movements can cause Tennis Elbow, including painting, cutting cooking ingredients and computer mouse use.

How is “Tennis Elbow” typically treated?

Typically, a Tennis Elbow injury is treated with a combination of rest, physical therapy and anti-inflammatory medications if the injury is minor. In severe injuries, steroid injections or surgery may be needed. While steroid and cortisone injections can temporarily reduce pain, over time they actually weaken and degenerate ligaments and tendons. This degeneration puts the patient at greater risk for surgery in the future.

How can the medical team at Renew Regenerative Medicine help?

Advanced regenerative and restorative treatments are now available to treat Tennis Elbow injuries without the need for surgery. Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy helps repair Tennis Elbow with local injections. PRP presents patients with a long-lasting solution using the body’s natural healing process. PRP uses platelets from the patient’s own blood to promote healing and regeneration of tissue; no foreign objects or substances are added to the elbow during the procedure. PRP therapy offers an effective treatment option with a low risk of infection or other complications.

The medical team at Renew Regenerative Medicine also uses Regenerative Cell Therapy injections to treat Tennis Elbow injuries. Regenerative Cell Therapy allows patients to use regenerative cells to help repair and regenerate damaged cells and tissues in their elbow. Stem Cell Therapy is the most advanced and, arguably, most effective regenerative therapy — stem cells can heal and restore damaged joints and regenerate cells. Stem Cell Therapy can be used to stimulate a regenerative healing process in the elbow and in this way can be used to provide many patients powerful healing and long-lasting relief.
